Salma Hayek got her big breakthrough in Hollywood by playing a character in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado before advancing to the pinnacle of the business with her Academy Award-nominated turn in Frida. Hayek has also been engaged in work on TV and was the chief director of production on the hit show Ugly Betty. Salma Hayek Jimenez is the daughter of Spanish parents and is a Lebanese father. She was born on September 2nd, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz Mexico. Raised in a well-to-do Catholic home, Hayek attended a convent school in Louisiana in the age of 12 and lived alongside her grandmother in Houston, Texas, during her teens.
